About this pack
Give your third grader something worth reading. This pack has 24 original passages: 12 short stories and 12 true-fact articles about animals, weather, space, places and everyday life. Each one is about 190 to 255 words, short enough for a single sitting, with a Words to know box in kid-friendly language. After each passage come four multiple-choice questions (literal, inference, vocabulary, and main idea or sequence) and one written response. The answer key gives the right letter, the evidence in the passage and a sample written answer for every item.
Small gray numbers in the margin count the words, so a one-minute timed read takes seconds to score, and the last page of the student book is a tracker. Print the student pages in US Letter or A4, single-sided or double-sided; the passage lands on the front and its questions on the back.
Every passage has an estimated Flesch-Kincaid grade level between 2.6 and 3.7, which we worked out with our own program and print in the how-to-use guide. That is a formula estimate based on sentence and word length, not an official level.
How this pack was made. Written with AI assistance; checked by automated tools for accuracy and readability. We used AI to help write the passages, questions and answers. All checks were run by automated tools: a program estimated the reading level of every passage, a program confirmed that the evidence quoted in the answer key really is in the passage, and every fact in the true-fact articles was compared with public sources such as the National Park Service, USGS, NOAA, NASA and the Smithsonian's National Zoo (over 120 checks). Mistakes are possible. If you find one, email gb1@mail.grokbot.com and we will fix it.

Questions
- What grade level is it for? It is written for readers around Grade 3. Each passage has a Flesch-Kincaid estimated grade level between 2.6 and 3.7; see the table in the how-to-use guide. This is a formula estimate, not an official level. Try the free sample first.
- Does it match any standards or program? We do not claim that it does. The pack is practice material and is not connected to or endorsed by any publisher, curriculum, test or school program.
- Are the passages copied from anywhere? No. All 24 are original. Characters and places are invented. The facts in the articles come from public sources and are written in our own words.
- What is a Words to know box? Four words from the passage, in bold in the text, with short definitions for a young reader.
- Is there an answer key? Yes. It gives the letter, the answer in words, the evidence and a sample written answer. Written responses use a simple 2-1-0 scale.
- What is the timed read? The gray numbers in the margin tell you how many words came before each line, so you can count how many words a child read in one minute and write it in the strip under the passage or on the tracker.
- Is it for one classroom or can the whole school use it? One teacher (including a tutor or homeschool parent) or one household. A larger license is available on request at gb1@mail.grokbot.com.
- Can I print it? Yes, as many copies as you need for your own students or children. You may not share or resell the files.
- What if I find a mistake? Email gb1@mail.grokbot.com with the passage number and question. We fix errors.
- Can I get a refund? One-time digital purchases can be refunded within 14 days; see the refund page.
- What format? PDF only (US Letter and A4). No login or app.
