Period Roll
Creates the next period's tab for you. For budgets, timesheets, sales logs, client reports and inventory counts that keep one tab per month, week or quarter.
Period Roll is not yet listed on the Google Workspace Marketplace. This page will link to the listing when it is published.
What it does
- Copies your latest period tab (or a template tab you choose) as the new tab, named like "Dec 2026", "2026-12", "W49 2026" or "Q1 2027". You choose the format.
- Clears the typed-in values in the ranges you list. Formulas, formatting and data validation stay.
- Carries values forward: link a cell (such as a closing balance) to the new tab's opening balance, or copy its value.
- Shows a preview of exactly which tab it will create, and refuses to overwrite an existing tab.
- Pro: advance date cells by one period, write the period start date into a label cell, create several periods at once, warn before editing the previous period, and save several profiles.
What it does not do
- It does not run by itself. You click the button. (Automatic runs would need broader Google permissions, and this add-on deliberately asks for less.)
- Formulas that mention their own tab by name keep pointing at the old tab. Use the label cell or relative references.
- The "lock" on the previous period is a warning for people using the sheet, not security.
- It never deletes existing tabs. Keep Google Sheets version history on; you can restore any earlier version from File → Version history.
