Tab Stacker and Splitter
Moves rows between tabs without copy-paste. Always writes to new tabs.
Tab Stacker and Splitter is not yet listed on the Google Workspace Marketplace. This page will link to the listing when it is published.
Stack tabs
- Pick tabs (or all tabs starting with a prefix, like "Jan-") and combine their rows into one new tab.
- Optionally adds a "Source tab" column so you know where each row came from.
- Handles blank rows, repeated header rows and tabs with different widths. Warns when headers do not match.
- Pro: lines columns up by header name even when tabs have them in a different order or with extra columns.
Split a tab
- Choose a column (by header or letter) and get one new tab per distinct value, each with your header rows.
- Names that already exist as tabs are skipped, never overwritten.
Safe by design
- Results always go to new tabs. Your existing tabs are not changed.
- A preview shows what will be created before anything happens.
- "Undo last run" removes the tabs that run created.
What it does not do
- It copies values, not formulas, and does not copy formatting. Check the result.
- It does not run by itself or keep tabs in sync. You click the button.
- Tab names follow Google Sheets rules (characters / : ? * [ ] become spaces; 100-character limit).
- Very large tabs are refused before anything is read, with a message saying why. Very long splits can hit Google's six-minute limit for add-ons; the add-on stops cleanly, keeps what it created and tells you to run it again to continue.
